Violent clashes between a vigilante and suspected Fulani herdsmen in Aso Pada, Nasarawa State, have left a trail of destruction and death. On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the community, located near GSM Village and popularly known as Agwan-Yobe, was attacked in a two-phase assault. Videos obtained by eyewitnesses show multiple houses engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke rising from the area. Several vehicles were also burnt, leaving behind charred remains and wreckage.
The crisis began following an altercation between a vigilante and a Fulani man in the early hours of Wednesday. Community chief, Mr Silas Musa, explained that the incident triggered a reprisal attack by suspected Fulani groups, who invaded the community and began burning properties and attacking residents. Mr Musa stated that security agencies, including soldiers, the DSS, and the Civil Defence, were contacted to intervene.
The attack occurred in two phases, with the first wave targeting properties and the second wave resulting in fatalities and injuries. Mr Musa confirmed that at least five persons have been killed, many injured, and 15 cars burnt.
💡 NaijaBuzz TakeThe recent violence in Aso Pada, Nasarawa State, highlights the ongoing crisis between herdsmen and local communities. The attack, which resulted in the deaths of five persons and destruction of properties, is a stark reminder of the need for effective security measures to protect lives and property. The involvement of security agencies, including soldiers and the DSS, raises questions about the preparedness of these agencies to respond to such crises. The fact that the attackers were able to launch a second wave of attacks after security operatives had intervened suggests a lack of coordination and communication. This incident is a wake-up call for the authorities to take proactive steps to prevent such attacks and ensure the safety of citizens.
