The Federal Government has activated a steering committee to oversee the nationwide rollout of the National Community Food Bank Programme. The committee held its first meeting in Abuja on April 12 2026, as confirmed in a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Health. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Muhammad Ali Pate, who chaired the session, urged the committee to prioritise execution and tangible outcomes. "This Committee must ensure that implementation is not only coordinated, but effective. This is not about meetings, but about results that improve the lives of Nigerians," Pate said. The programme, an initiative of Oluremi Tinubu, targets malnutrition and aims to strengthen food and nutrition systems across all 774 local government areas. It will focus on underserved communities, with an emphasis on improving nutrition and reducing vulnerability. The committee includes representatives from ministries of humanitarian affairs, agriculture, women affairs, and health, as well as relevant agencies. Their responsibilities include oversight, stakeholder coordination, and progress tracking. The official launch is set for later in April in Borno.
