FG Praises Zulum for Boosting Skills Development in Borno The Federal Government has commended Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, for his efforts in improving Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the state. This commendation comes after about 3,000 young Borno residents completed training in various vocational skills at nine centres across the state. In a statement released recently, the Federal Ministry of Education praised Governor Zulum's initiative, saying it is a significant step towards empowering young Nigerians with practical skills that can make them employable. The ministry noted that the graduates received starter packs and ₦100,000 each to support their transition into entrepreneurship. The Minister of Education, Alausa, stated that this initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises youth empowerment through skills development. The Federal Government is also implementing a nationwide TVET programme, aiming to provide 250,000 training opportunities for young Nigerians. So far, over 180,000 youths are undergoing training in centres across the country under this initiative. The model used in the training places emphasis on practical skills, with 80% of the training comprising hands-on experience and 20% theoretical instruction. To further support the graduates, a national TVET job portal is being developed to connect skilled artisans with industry opportunities and provide them with access to starter packs and affordable loans. The Federal Ministry of Education remains committed to expanding skills development programmes, which are crucial for the country's economic growth and development. For Nigeria, investments in TVET are crucial for addressing the high rate of unemployment among young people. Many Nigerians have the potential to excel in various crafts and skills, but lack the necessary training and resources to do so. Governor Zulum's efforts, therefore, are a step in the right direction, and the Federal Government's commendation is a testament to the importance of his initiative.
