**FG Keeps Promise as D'Tigress Receive Houses, National Honours in France**
In a heartwarming display of appreciation for their outstanding achievements, Nigeria's senior women's basketball team, D'Tigress, have received their house documents and national honours in France. This move is a fulfillment of a promise made by President Bola Tinubu after the team won a record-extending fifth consecutive title at the FIBA Women's AfroBasket in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, in August 2025.
The presentation took place in Lyon, France, where the team is currently competing in the FIBA Women's World Cup Qualifying Tournament. The National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman, Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Bukola Olopade, led government officials to present the title documents and honours to the players and their officials.
As part of the rewards announced by President Tinubu, each player is to receive a house in Abuja, a national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), and $100,000. Members of the coaching and technical crew will also receive $50,000 and national honours.
Speaking at the presentation, Mr Dikko praised President Tinubu for making sports work in Nigeria again and giving athletes renewed confidence that sports can change their lives and provide financial stability. He noted that the players' consistent performance, patriotic spirit, and never-give-up mentality have placed Nigeria on the global map.
This gesture is a testament to the FG's commitment to rewarding excellence in sports and a demonstration of the impact that Nigerian athletes can have on the global stage. The D'Tigress's historic AfroBasket triumph has inspired a new generation of Nigerian athletes and has paved the way for future successes in sports.
In a country where sports have the potential to unite and inspire Nigerians from all walks of life, the FG's decision to reward the D'Tigress is a welcome move that will undoubtedly motivate other athletes to strive for excellence. As Nigeria continues to grow and develop its sports sector, it is heartening to see the government supporting and celebrating the achievements of its athletes.
