**FG Boosts Inmate Reintegration, Social Protection Efforts**
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Nigerian Correctional Service to ensure that ex-inmates are well-integrated back into society. This move is aimed at promoting social protection and effective rehabilitation of inmates.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, made this known during a recent meeting with the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Mr. Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche. As part of these efforts, the government has launched a comprehensive social register that captures over 19.7 million households across the country.
This register is a crucial tool for identifying and supporting vulnerable populations in Nigeria. It was created through a rigorous data collection process that involved the community and ensures that everyone on the list is accurately geo-referenced.
The Federal Government sees this register as a vital instrument for ensuring that social intervention programmes reach the intended beneficiaries effectively. The government has also initiated reforms to make these programmes more transparent, impactful, and targeted.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction emphasized that caring for the vulnerable is a collective responsibility that should be pursued without discrimination. He commended the leadership of the Nigerian Correctional Service for their dedication to the welfare, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates, describing their efforts as genuine and selfless.
The Federal Government's efforts to boost inmate reintegration and social protection are part of its broader initiatives to reduce poverty and promote social inclusion in Nigeria. With over 19.7 million households on the social register, the government is well-positioned to identify and support vulnerable populations across the country.
