Federal Govt uncovers foreign firms blackmail plot during Tinubu’s UK visit
**Federal Government Exposes Foreign Firms' Blackmail Plot Against President Tinubu's UK Visit**
As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prepares to embark on a historic two-day state visit to the United Kingdom (UK) with his wife, First Lady Oluremi, the Federal Government has uncovered a plot by a foreign mining firm to disrupt the President's visit through blackmail.
According to the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Jupiter Ltd, a mining firm, had planned to sponsor a protest and a media campaign aimed at discrediting the government over the enforcement of mining regulations. The ministry alleged that the company's claims were a "tissue of falsehoods" designed to distract from the government's efforts to sanitize the mining sector.
The controversy centers on the revocation of mineral titles previously held by Basin Mining Ltd, a Nigerian company reportedly fronted by Australian national Steve Davis. The government revoked the licenses after the company failed to pay statutory annual service fees totaling N2,494,000,000 for various mineral titles.
The ministry clarified that the government has no direct legal relationship with "Jupiter Lithium" as Nigerian law prohibits granting mining licenses directly to foreign entities. This move is seen as a significant step in ensuring that Nigeria's natural resources are managed in the best interest of the country.
President Tinubu's visit to the UK is a significant moment for Nigeria, marking the country's first state visit to Windsor Castle in 37 years. The visit is expected to strengthen Nigeria's relationship with the UK and open up new opportunities for collaboration in various areas, including trade and investment.
However, the plot by Jupiter Ltd to disrupt the President's visit is seen as a desperate attempt by the company to escape accountability for its actions. The Federal Government's swift action in exposing the plot has sent a strong signal that it will not tolerate any form of blackmail or intimidation from foreign companies seeking to exploit Nigeria's natural resources.
As President Tinubu embarks on this historic visit, Nigerians are expected to rally behind him, showcasing the country's rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality to the world. The visit is a moment of pride for Nigeria, and it is essential that we ensure that it is marked by dignity, respect, and a strong sense of national unity.
