The latest violence in Plateau State has left four dead in fresh clashes between farmers and herders across Barikin Ladi, Jos, and Riyom local government areas. Gunmen stormed Ban community near Plateau State Polytechnic in Barikin Ladi around 11 pm on Wednesday, killing two and injuring two others, according to Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association. In Riyom, a 27-year-old farmer, Amos Monday, was ambushed and killed between Baten and Du'a villages at 8:15 pm. Meanwhile, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria confirmed two herders—Abdulrazak Salisu and Shapi'u Idris—were killed while grazing in Barkin Ladi and Jos South on April 1, 2026. Salisu was shot near Airport General around 4 pm, while Idris was beheaded in Gero area of Jos South around 5 pm. Both groups traded accusations, with BYM blaming herders and MACBAN denying involvement. Security agencies, including the police and DSS, have been notified, but no immediate arrests have been made.
Plateau's cycle of blame only deepens when leaders like Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo of MACBAN insist their members were peacefully grazing before being slaughtered. The fact that Shapi'u Idris was beheaded while authorities were notified suggests security responses remain too slow to stop the bloodshed. Unless both sides stop trading accusations and focus on joint protection, more names will be added to the death toll.
