Former governor of Jigawa State and a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sule Lamido, has asked party members to agree with the caretaker Committee plan proposed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike. Lamido urged PDP members to focus on healing and unity to make the party strong again. He made the appeal while talking to journalists during a Ramadan Iftar event with PDP officials and members in Bamaina, which is his hometown in Jigawa State. He described Wike as a politically strategic figure who capitalised on the leadership vacuum that arose following the expiration of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) term. According to Lamido: “Wike is someone who is really, really clever. I think he realised everything and managed to form a caretaker committee. By the time the existing NWC term ended, the only structure in place was the one backed by Wike.” The former governor said that even though there were disagreements inside the party, everyone should work together by talking to all the important people, including Wike, to keep the group united. He said, “Even though many people might not like Wike or may disagree with him, we should still invite him in the spirit of Nigeria, in the spirit of brotherhood and PDP unity, and in the spirit of reconciliation.”
