Eight Feared Dead As Terrorists Bomb Niger Bridge
Eight people lost their lives in a tragic incident on Monday when a vehicle they were traveling in was hit by an improvised explosive device in Niger State. The IED was planted by terrorists who had earlier destroyed a bridge along Luma road in Borgu Local Government Area.
The bridge was a vital connection for people moving between towns, particularly the Babanna major border market, which is held every Monday. Unfortunately, the vehicle moving between Nuku and Woro stepped on the IED, causing it to explode and killing the seven occupants and the driver.
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the bombing of the bridge and is currently conducting a clearance operation to ensure the area is safe.
The latest bombing in Niger State is a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorists in the country. The Niger State Police Command must be commended for their swift response to the incident, but more needs to be done to prevent such attacks in the future. The destruction of the bridge will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the local economy, particularly on the Babanna major border market, which relies heavily on the bridge for trade. The people of Niger State deserve to live in a safe and secure environment, and it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that this is the case.
