Despite Crisis, PDP Will Contest 2027 Elections — Saraki
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to participate in the 2027 general elections, according to former President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki. Saraki expressed this confidence during an interview, citing the resolve of party leaders to prioritise the party's participation in the elections. Despite existing disagreements within the party, leaders across different factions have agreed on the need to ensure that aspirants can contest elective positions on the PDP platform. Ensuring the party's unity is crucial for its chances of participating in the election, with Saraki stating that any issue capable of jeopardising this must be resolved. The party's former Senate President also emphasised the importance of having a functional leadership structure to achieve its political objectives.
The PDP must have a National Working Committee (NWC) capable of organising its activities and preparing the party for the 2027 elections, Saraki noted. He added that the processes to achieve this are clear and that the party must focus on delivering a functional leadership structure. Saraki's comments come as the party navigates internal disagreements and prepares for the upcoming elections.
The PDP's determination to contest the 2027 elections is a welcome development, but it raises questions about the party's ability to deliver on its promises. Former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki's call for unity and a functional leadership structure is a step in the right direction, but it remains to be seen whether the party can put aside its internal squabbles and work towards a common goal. For Nigerians, the PDP's participation in the elections is crucial, as it offers a viable alternative to the ruling party. However, the party's chances of success depend on its ability to resolve its internal issues and present a united front to the electorate. The party's focus on delivering a functional leadership structure is a positive development, but it must be backed up by concrete actions and a clear vision for the country's future.
