Dangote Refinery has ramped up deliveries of petrol and fertiliser to African nations facing supply disruptions due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. The refinery, located in Lagos, began increasing output in early March 2024 to meet rising demand from countries struggling with fuel and agricultural input shortages. Company officials confirmed that weekly petrol exports have risen by 30%, with shipments directed to Niger, Ghana, and Cameroon. Fertiliser deliveries, particularly granulated urea, have also been expanded to support farming cycles in landlocked West African states.
A spokesperson for Dangote Group stated, "We are leveraging our production capacity to stabilise supply chains affected by global tensions." The refinery, which began commercial operations in 2023, can process up to 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Its expanded output now accounts for over 40% of West Africa's imported petrol. Neighbouring countries have reportedly placed additional orders for diesel and aviation fuel in recent weeks.
