Court Blocks Turaki Faction from PDP Headquarters

A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a restraining order against a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki. The court's decision, delivered on Monday by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, was a result of a suit filed by PDP members loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The court directed security agencies to provide protection for the faction aligned with Wike to access and operate from the party's national headquarters. The agencies listed in the order include the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS). The court's ruling was based on its finding that the PDP national convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, was conducted in violation of existing court orders.

The judge held that the convention was invalid due to a breach of Section 287(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Additionally, the court ruled that the convention violated provisions of the PDP constitution, rendering the outcome legally ineffective.

The court's decision to block the Turaki faction from accessing the PDP national secretariat highlights the deepening divisions within the party. The ruling is a direct consequence of the November 15 and 16 convention in Ibadan, which the court has deemed invalid. The implications of this ruling are far-reaching, particularly for the faction led by Kabiru Turaki, which will now face significant challenges in its bid to assert its authority within the party. The decision also underscores the critical role of the judiciary in resolving disputes and upholding the rule of law in the country.
