Justice Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court Abuja has issued a restraining order against the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) from accessing the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja. The order was made in a suit filed by a group of PDP loyalists led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The judge held that the November 15 and 16, 2025 national convention held by the Turaki-led group in Ibadan was a nullity due to its violation of Section 287(3) of the Nigerian Constitution and the PDP's constitution. She also described the expulsion of Wike and his allies from the party as an affront to the order of the court.
The judge further ordered security agencies to provide adequate protection to the PDP led by Abdulrahman Mohammed while accessing the secretariat. All proceedings, resolutions, and decisions taken at the said convention were declared unconstitutional, unlawful, null and void, and of no effect.
The court's decision is a significant blow to the Turaki-led faction of the PDP, which has been embroiled in a bitter dispute with the Wike-led group. The fact that the Turaki-led convention was deemed a nullity due to its violation of the Constitution and the PDP's constitution raises serious questions about the legitimacy of their claims to power. The Wike-led group's national convention, which elected Abdulrahaman as the substantive national chairman, is now the only recognized convention. This development has significant implications for the future of the PDP and the fate of its loyalists.
