**Tragic Loss in Bauchi: Channels TV Cameraman Dies in Convoy Crash**
Nigeria has lost another shining star in the media industry. Kani Ben, a dedicated cameraman with Channels Television, has passed on after a road accident on February 7. The incident occurred while Ben was on assignment in Bauchi State to cover the commissioning of projects by the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
Ben was part of a team of journalists who were traveling in a bus when the vehicle lost control and somersaulted several times along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area. Another Channels Television reporter, Hajara Aliyu, miraculously escaped the tragedy.
The Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed shock and sadness over the untimely death of their colleague. In a statement, the council extended its deepest condolences to Ben's family, the NUJ family, and his associates. The council also suspended its planned congress meeting in honor of the deceased.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has also condoled with the family of the late cameraman, describing his death as "painful and heartbreaking". He commended Ben's dedication and courage, and prayed for his eternal rest.
The incident serves as a reminder of the risks journalists face in the course of their duties. It is a sobering reminder of the importance of prioritizing the safety and well-being of journalists in Nigeria. As we mourn the loss of Kani Ben, we also recognize the invaluable contributions he made to the media industry.
The incident occurred during the commissioning of projects by the NEDC, which involved journalists from various media outfits. The convoy was on its way to commission the Bara Bridge, which borders Bauchi and Gombe states, when the accident occurred. The injured journalists were rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
As we bid farewell to Kani Ben, we remember his courage and dedication to his craft. May his memory inspire others to continue in his footsteps, and may his family find the strength to cope with this tragic loss.
