Eminent Nigerians gathered at the TFK Event Centre in Abuja to celebrate the 60th birthday of Queen Jumai Amoke, Olori of Kuta, and the launch of her foundation on March 28, 2026. The event was attended by former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. TY Buratai (rtd), Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, and several other dignitaries.
The Olowu of Kuta, HRM Oba Dr Adekunle Oyelude Makama, CON, Tegbosun iii, commended Queen Jumai for establishing the Amoke Children and Mother in Need Foundation, which aims to alleviate poverty and support the less privileged. He praised her kindness and love for the downtrodden, saying her best is yet to come.
Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. TY Buratai, also congratulated Queen Jumai on her 60th birthday, saying she merited the celebration through her hospitality to all. He added that Allah would accept her acts of kindness.
The Minister of Justice, Prince Fagbemi, praised Queen Jumai for her generosity and urged guests to contribute to the foundation to support the needy.
The lavish celebration of Queen Jumai Amoke's 60th birthday and the launch of her foundation raises questions about the values of Nigeria's elite. While the event showcases the generosity of the country's top businesswoman and socialite, Chief (Mrs) Bola Shagaya, and other dignitaries, it also highlights the stark reality of poverty and inequality in Nigeria. The fact that Queen Jumai has established a foundation to support the less privileged is commendable, but it also underscores the need for sustained efforts to address the root causes of poverty and inequality in the country. As Nigeria continues to grapple with the economic crisis occasioned by the global meltdown, the actions of its elite will be crucial in determining the fate of its most vulnerable citizens.
