**Breaking: Nigeria Confirms Eid al-Fitr 2026 Day**
Nigerian Muslims, get ready to celebrate Eid al-Fitr! After a wait, the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Sultan Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, has announced the date for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 2026.
In a statement released on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the Sultan confirmed that Eid al-Fitr will be observed on Friday, March 20, 2026. This comes after the moon marking the beginning of Shawwal, the month that follows Ramadan, was not sighted in Nigeria.
The Sultan, who is also the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims, explained that the new moon was not visible on the evening of Wednesday, March 18, which marked the 29th day of Ramadan 1447 AH. As a result, the start of Shawwal and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr will be on Friday, March 20.
The announcement was made in accordance with Islamic traditions, which require the sighting of the new moon to mark the beginning of a new month. The Sultan's declaration was confirmed by Umar Jubril Simwal, a member of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), who stated that no positive sightings were reported at the Sultan's palace.
So, get ready to join your family and friends to celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Friday, March 20, 2026. It's a time for reflection, gratitude, and joy, and we wish all Nigerian Muslims a happy and blessed celebration.
In Nigeria, Eid al-Fitr is a significant holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. It's a time for feasting, gift-giving, and spending time with loved ones. The celebration will be observed across the country, with Muslims gathering in mosques and other public spaces to pray and break their fast.
