Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has returned to court after a brief release following the burial of his mother. He was produced at the State High Court in Kaduna, where he faces multiple charges filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).
The ICPC had initially arraigned El-Rufai before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa on a 10-count charge, which included allegations of conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering. The court had fixed March 31, 2026, to hear pending applications, including El-Rufai's bail request.
However, the ICPC released El-Rufai on compassionate grounds after his mother's death in Cairo, Egypt, on March 27, 2026. Now, he is back in court, alongside Amadu Sule, to face additional charges of abuse of office, fraud, and intent to commit fraud.
The commission plans to take El-Rufai to the Federal High Court in Kaduna, where his bail application will be heard.
