Six people were killed and others injured when armed bandits raided Sabon Garin Pali in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State late on Sunday. The attackers struck around midnight, firing shots to scatter villagers before breaking into homes in search of valuables. A resident who asked not to be named said many were asleep when the bandits arrived, leaving no time to resist. The gunmen killed six people without cause, injured several others, and abducted an unknown number of residents during the two-hour assault. No security personnel arrived during the attack, allowing the bandits to operate unhindered.
Funeral prayers for the victims were led by the village imam outside the Village Head's palace before the bodies were buried. Bauchi State Police Command spokesperson SP Nafiu Abubakar did not respond to requests for comment via WhatsApp. Alkaleri has seen repeated bandit attacks, including deadly raids in early 2026 that killed soldiers, vigilantes, and civilians, forcing residents in villages like Gwana, Mansur, and Pali to flee.
The lack of security response during Sabon Garin Pali's attack shows how exposed rural communities remain. For residents in Alkaleri, this latest violence means the cycle of fear and displacement will only deepen unless something changes.
