Article of Faith: Waking with God (2), By Femi Aribisala
**Finding Our True Home in God** As Nigerians, we're often encouraged to put our faith in God as the ultimate source of comfort and strength. But have you ever stopped to consider that God is not just our source of comfort, but our ultimate destination? In fact, He is the Promised Land we've all been striving for. This idea is rooted in the scriptures, where we read that God has been our dwelling place from eternity. Moses, the great leader of Israel, reminds us that "the Lord has been our dwelling place in all generations." (Psalm 90:1). Even the apostle Paul echoes this, saying that we live, move, and have our being in God. (Acts 17:28). However, for centuries, humanity has been living in spiritual darkness, severed from a relationship with God due to Adam's sin. But with the coming of Jesus Christ, the spiritual death that had befallen humanity was reversed. Through His redeeming work, we're reconnected to God and our spiritual lives are revived. As the Bible puts it, "Christ is in you; therefore, you can look forward to sharing in God's glory." (Colossians 1:26-27). When we receive Christ as Lord and Saviour, we begin to experience God in a new way. His Holy Spirit takes up residence in our hearts, and we're no longer strangers to God or foreigners to heaven. We become part of God's family, citizens of His kingdom, and members of His household. (Ephesians 2:19). As we're born again, we gain a new perspective on life. We can now see the kingdom of God, which was previously invisible to us. (John 3:3). We become mindful of God's attributes and character, and we start to see the world from His perspective. (Romans 1:20). We're no longer driven by the things of this world, but by the desire to live according to God's will. (Matthew 16:23). But living a life in the Spirit is not just about being aware of God's presence; it's about walking with Him in every aspect of our lives. As the Bible puts it, "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." (Galatians 5:25). This means we're not just living with God, but going everywhere with Him. In practical terms, this means living a life of obedience, love, and compassion. It means being a reflection of God's character in every situation, and seeking to do His will in all we do. As we walk with God, we'll find that He's always with us, guiding us, directing us, and empowering us to live a life that's pleasing to Him.
