Army debunks report of 40 soldiers killed in Borno attacks
**Nigerian Army Clears Air on Borno Attacks: Dispelling Misleading Reports**
In recent times, the Nigerian Army has been facing scrutiny following reports of heavy casualties during terrorist attacks in Borno State. But in a swift move to set the record straight, the army has debunked these claims, describing them as misleading and based on unverified sources.
The controversy started with a report by Sahara Reporters, which alleged that over 40 soldiers lost their lives during attacks on communities in Borno State. However, the army has dismissed this report, calling it a distorted account of the incident.
According to the army's statement, the attacks were carried out by remnants of Boko Haram who had earlier been dislodged from the Sambisa Forest. The terrorists regrouped and launched coordinated night attacks on multiple communities and troop locations around Konduga, Ngoshe, Mainok, and Jakana.
The army said its troops responded swiftly and fought gallantly to repel the terrorists and defend the affected communities. While acknowledging that several terrorists were neutralised during the engagements, the military confirmed that a commanding officer and some soldiers were killed while confronting the attackers.
"It is sad to note that a Commanding Officer and some brave soldiers paid the supreme price while courageously confronting the attackers and preventing further devastation on other communities," the army said.
The military also rejected claims that its troops were overwhelmed during the attacks. "It is important to note that the troops were not overrun as portrayed in the report. Rather, they engaged the terrorists from multiple directions, neutralising them and defending the communities," the army said.
This development comes as the Nigerian Army continues its efforts to rid the country of terrorism. The army's swift response to the Sahara Reporters' report is a testament to its commitment to transparency and accountability.
It is worth noting that Borno State has been at the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency, with many communities suffering from the attacks. The Nigerian Army's efforts to protect these communities are crucial in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
In conclusion, the Nigerian Army's statement has provided clarity on the recent attacks in Borno State, dispelling misleading reports and highlighting the bravery and dedication of its troops.
