APGA Supports Party At Centre, Won’t Field A Candidate For 2027 Presidential Poll — Soludo
**APGA to Support Ruling Party, Not Field Presidential Candidate in 2027 Elections**
Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has announced that his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), will not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections. This decision was made public during a media chat in Awka, the state capital, on Friday, just three days after Soludo was sworn in for a second term.
Soludo explained that APGA had a precedent for not fielding a presidential candidate in 2011, when it adopted then-President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate. He stated, "We are not going to field one," in response to questions about his party's plans for the 2027 polls.
In a surprising move, Soludo pledged support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that his party was working closely with the central government. He described President Bola Tinubu as his friend and expressed confidence in the president's ability to win a second term. Soludo said, "At a personal and party level, there is no question. President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is my friend. I believe he has done well and deserves a second term."
Soludo's comments on Tinubu's presidency were made during a live media chat, which also touched on his administration's clampdown on native doctors in Anambra State. The governor emphasized that his administration is not opposed to traditional religion, but is concerned about the involvement of some native doctors in preparing charms for kidnappers and armed robbers. Soludo stated that it is the duty of the state government to stop diabolical rituals that have given rise to evil practices in the state.
Soludo's administration has reportedly cleared over 60 criminal camps in the state, earning Anambra the reputation as the safest state in the country. During the media chat, the governor highlighted the importance of tackling crimes and maintaining public safety. His administration's efforts to deal with native doctors involved in evil practices are part of this broader effort to ensure the well-being of the people of Anambra State.
