Anambra state police have arrested two men for allegedly staging the kidnap of an 18-year-old girl.

The suspects, 25-year-old Chinedu Nwobi and Okwudili Nweke, were arrested on March 14, 2026, along with a third man, Obiora Okoye, who is still at large.

The 'kidnapped' girl, Mmesoma Ifediora, was rescued unhurt from a forest in Awkuzu, Anambra state, where she had been taken by her boyfriend and the two suspects.

During interrogation, Mmesoma confessed that she and her boyfriend had staged the kidnap to extort N3m from her parents.

She had demanded N3m ransom, but her parents had only sent N240,000 through her Opay account.

Items recovered from the scene include SIM cards, a mobile phone, a necklace, and other items.

💡 NaijaBuzz Take

The brazen attempt by Obiora Okoye and his accomplices to extort N3m from Mmesoma's parents is a stark reminder of the depths of desperation and greed that can drive individuals to commit such heinous crimes. The Anambra state police must be commended for their swift action in arresting the suspects and rescuing the victim. However, the fact that Obiora Okoye is still at large raises concerns about the effectiveness of the police's pursuit of justice. This incident highlights the need for parents to be vigilant and cautious in such situations, and for the police to prioritize the protection of citizens from such crimes.
