Alfred and Okuro Successfully Defend Titles at Wrestling Classics

Nigeria's wrestling stars, Alfred and Okuro, have made a triumphant return to the top of the Greco-Roman category at the 4th edition of the Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics. Held in Yenagoa on Saturday, March 28, the duo put up impressive performances to retain their titles. Alfred, representing the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), dominated the 67kg division, winning the gold medal in a round-robin format. His opponent, Akene Ebi of Bayelsa State, claimed the silver medal, while Hamza Shuaibu of the Nigeria Army and Ipanbu Somina of Sim Fubara secured bronze.

In the super heavyweight (130kg) category, Okuro from Delta State showcased his prowess, defeating all challengers by technical superiority to retain his title. The competition also saw Harrison Onovwiomogbohwo of Bayelsa State emerge as the new Greco-Roman champion in the 97kg category, dethroning Tobechukwu Udeh of the Nigeria Army. Bayelsa State topped the Greco-Roman medal table with eight medals, including four gold, one silver, and three bronze.
