Afternoon recap: Saraki calls for fresh PDP convention, Tinubu seeks senate nod for Oyedele, Abe’s appointment
**Afternoon Recap: PDP and APC in the News**
In today's Nigerian news, two major parties are making headlines. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are at the center of attention as a former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and President Bola Tinubu make significant moves.
**PDP in Focus: Saraki Calls for Fresh Convention**
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has appealed to PDP leaders and stakeholders to end ongoing litigations over the party's disputed national convention. In a statement, Saraki urged the party to focus on organizing a fresh national convention that complies with electoral guidelines.
Recall that the Court of Appeal recently upheld an earlier ruling invalidating the PDP national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025. This move is seen as a major setback for the party, which has been grappling with internal conflicts.
**APC in Focus: Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation for Oyedele and Abe**
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to screen and confirm Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite. The President also urged the upper chamber to confirm former Rivers South-East senator, Magnus Abe, as chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.
Tinubu's requests were contained in separate letters read during plenary by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio. The move is seen as a strategic effort to strengthen the APC's grip on key sectors of the economy.
