**Adekunle Gold Foundation Leads the Charge in Ensuring Healthcare Access for Sickle Cell Patients in Nigeria** In a major push to improve healthcare access for Nigerians living with Sickle Cell Disease, the Adekunle Gold Foundation recently conducted a quarterly outreach in Lagos, providing critical medical support to over 400 patients. The initiative, which took place on March 14, was a collaborative effort with the Sickle Cell Advocacy & Management Initiative. The outreach event offered a wide range of services, including specialist consultations, laboratory testing, blood transfusions, pain and crisis management, physiotherapy support, and the distribution of essential medications. Participants received prescription drugs and treatment supplies that will support their care for up to three months. Sickle Cell Disease is a major public health concern in Nigeria, with millions of people living with the condition and thousands of children born with it every year. The Adekunle Gold Foundation, established by the award-winning musician, has taken a leading role in advocating for improved awareness, healthcare access, and research for the condition. Adekunle Gold, who has lived with Sickle Cell Disease since childhood, emphasized the urgent need for sustained support for patients, pointing out that many individuals struggle with the high cost of ongoing medical care, which goes beyond just physical pain. Beyond the recent outreach, the foundation is also working to expand long-term healthcare access through its "5 Star Care" initiative, which was launched in 2025. This programme provided 1,000 people living with Sickle Cell Disease with free health insurance in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Health Management Agency. The initiative aims to improve access to care within the state's healthcare system. The foundation is also taking its advocacy efforts international, collaborating with researchers at the New York University Department of Global Health to explore new treatment approaches and improve the quality of life for patients.
