The Abia State Government has approved the first phase of retrofitting the Arochukwu Waterfall in Ibom, aiming to boost tourism and economic development. Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed the decision on Tuesday following the State Executive Council meeting. The upgrade will include construction of entrance gates, souvenir shops, a town stand, bush bar, and convenience facilities to improve accessibility and visitor experience. According to Kanu, the project is expected to increase the state's Internally Generated Revenue, create jobs, and stimulate economic activities in host communities. He noted that the initiative is part of a broader plan to position Abia as a top tourist destination in Nigeria. Other sites, including the historic Ojukwu Bunker in Umuahia, will also undergo renovations. This follows an agreement between the state government and the National War Museum, represented by the State Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Arts, to upgrade the bunker to international standards.
