Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to revitalising the state's education sector through increased funding and policy-driven reforms. He cited specific improvements in infrastructure, teacher welfare, and curriculum development as evidence of progress since he assumed office in November 2024. The governor pointed to the rehabilitation of over 120 public schools and the distribution of learning materials to 78,000 pupils across 18 local government areas as tangible outcomes. He also referenced the reintroduction of technical and vocational training in 25 secondary schools, a move aimed at boosting practical skills among students. Okpebholo attributed the turnaround to strategic budgetary allocations, noting that education now accounts for 28% of the 2025 state budget. "Our children deserve better, and we are delivering on that promise," he stated during a town hall meeting in Benin City on January 14, 2025. The Edo Basic Education Sector Support Project (EBESSP), in partnership with international development agencies, is overseeing the implementation of the reforms.
