Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Nigeria's Ambassador to South Africa, Senator Ita Enang, has urged journalists to uphold professionalism and resist any attempt to manipulate provisions of the Electoral Act. Speaking at an event in Pretoria, Enang emphasized that credible elections depend on strict adherence to existing electoral laws. He warned against actions aimed at misleading the electorate through legal loopholes or misinterpretations of the Act. The ambassador described the media as a critical stakeholder in Nigeria's democratic process and called on journalists to serve as watchdogs during the electoral cycle. He stressed that transparency and accountability must guide all phases of the election process. Enang reiterated Nigeria's commitment to conducting free, fair, and peaceful polls in 2027. He urged media practitioners to avoid complicity in any scheme that undermines electoral integrity. The event brought together Nigerian diplomats, media representatives, and members of the diaspora community.
