Young athletes from across Nigeria have been rewarded with a total of N20 million in prize money after competing in the MTN CHAMPS season 3 Continental Relays. The event, which drew about 20,000 athletes and over 1,500 schools nationwide, was held at the Yabatech Sports Complex in Jos, Plateau state capital.
Ngonwa Nwoye, Chief Customer Experience and Relations Officer of MTN Nigeria, praised the event for showcasing the scale and impact of MTN's commitment to youth sports. She noted that the competition was an inspiring display of talent, resilience, and professionalism, with athletes achieving personal bests despite challenging weather conditions.
The event featured enhanced rewards, with individual winners receiving up to N2 million for first position. Schools also benefited, with the first-place winner taking home N5,000,000. Some participants, including Benjamin Magaji and Mercy Ugonna, praised MTN for allowing them to balance education and sports while pursuing their dreams.
MTN Nigeria's Ngonwa Nwoye has once again demonstrated the company's commitment to youth development through sports. The MTN CHAMPS season 3 Continental Relays has shown that with the right support, young athletes can excel in their chosen fields. However, it is crucial that MTN follows through on its promise to invest in the long-term development of these athletes. The fact that individual winners received up to N2 million for first position is a significant incentive, but it is essential that MTN also prioritizes the educational needs of these athletes. By doing so, MTN can help create a new generation of talented and educated Nigerians who can contribute to the country's growth and development.
