Yobe Varsity VC: We’re seeking to produce highly employable graduates
**Yobe Varsity VC Aims to Produce Employable Graduates**
In a significant milestone for the Federal University Gashua in Yobe State, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Yaqub Ahmed Geidam, has revealed key initiatives to strengthen the institution's academic and environmental agenda. Speaking at the 11th matriculation ceremony, Professor Geidam expressed optimism about the future of the university, emphasizing the importance of producing highly employable graduates.
At the ceremony, Professor Geidam took a moment to remind the new students of their solemn commitment to uphold the highest standards of conduct throughout their academic stay. This, he explained, is a crucial part of their journey as members of the academic community. With the matriculation oath, the students have begun a 'life-changing academic journey'.
This year's matriculation exercise holds special significance as it marks the first under Professor Geidam's leadership. Since its establishment in 2013, the university has made significant strides in expanding its academic offerings and infrastructure. Today, the university operates five faculties and 34 academic programmes, including an expanding postgraduate school.
According to Professor Geidam, the university's progress is a result of the support of the Federal Government, the National Universities Commission, traditional institutions, development partners, and the commitment of the university's academic and administrative staff. He expressed gratitude for these contributions, which have enabled the university to grow into a reputable institution.
In line with the changing world, Professor Geidam has announced several reforms aimed at preparing students for the demands of the modern job market. He emphasized the importance of producing graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also employable. This is a welcome development, especially as Nigeria grapples with the challenge of unemployment among graduates.
At Federal University Gashua, the focus is now on equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world. With these initiatives, the university is poised to play a significant role in addressing the challenges of unemployment and underdevelopment in Nigeria.
