**Ukraine's Rebuilding Cost Hits N183.8 trillion, World Bank Promises Increased Support** The cost of rebuilding Ukraine after four years of Russia's invasion has skyrocketed to nearly $588 billion over the next decade, according to the latest joint assessment by the Ukrainian government and international partners. This figure is nearly three times Ukraine's projected GDP for 2025, highlighting the enormity of the destruction caused by the ongoing conflict. The assessment, released in Kyiv on February 23, 2026, covers 46 months of war-related impact and highlights the expanding scale of destruction in Ukraine's housing, transport, and energy sectors. These sectors have borne the brunt of the war, with frontline regions and major metropolitan areas suffering the most. The housing sector has been severely affected, with approximately 14% of Ukraine's housing stock damaged or destroyed, impacting over three million households nationwide. The transport sector has also suffered, with recovery needs rising by around 24% due to renewed assaults on rail infrastructure and port facilities in 2025. In the energy sector, damaged or destroyed assets have increased by about 21% since the last assessment, with power generation facilities, transmission lines, distribution networks, and district heating systems all affected. The World Bank Group, European Commission, and United Nations have pledged to continue supporting Ukraine's long-term recovery. Anna Bjerde, Managing Director of Operations at the World Bank Group, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to Ukraine's recovery, stating that the country continues to press on with remarkable strength and resolve despite the widespread damage. Ukraine's Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, expressed appreciation to international partners for their continued support, noting that assistance has enabled urgent repairs and recovery efforts. She also acknowledged the resilience of the Ukrainian people, who continue to work and develop despite the challenges posed by the war.
