Women group seeks collaboration to advance gender justice
**Women Group Urges Collaboration to Achieve Equal Justice in Nigeria** In a bid to push for greater equality and fairness in Nigeria, a women's advocacy group, Women N Media, has called on government, policymakers, and other stakeholders to join forces to dismantle obstacles hindering women and vulnerable groups from accessing equal justice. At the 15th edition of the International Women's Day Summit, Empowerment and Stewardship Awards 2026, held in Lagos, the group emphasized the need for collective action to address the structural barriers that prevent women from enjoying equal rights and opportunities. Themed "Give to Gain: Dismantle the Structural Barrier to Equal Justice," the event brought together influential Nigerians, including policymakers, professionals, and women leaders, to discuss pressing issues related to gender equality, empowerment, and social justice. Among the dignitaries represented at the event were the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the International President of Women N Media, Dr Lillian Ayodele Williams. The keynote speaker, Dr Ada Chukwudozie, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Keystone Bank, highlighted the importance of addressing inequality and promoting social justice in Nigeria. Dr Ogechi Nwokedi, President of Women Optometrists in Nigeria, spoke about the critical role good vision plays in achieving equal justice and opportunities. She noted that vision problems are a significant barrier to education, employment, and social participation, particularly affecting women worldwide. Globally, an estimated 2.2 billion people live with visual problems, with over 55% being women. In Nigeria, more than 24 million people suffer from vision loss, with 1.3 million being blind and 50 million estimated to have eye problems. Dr Nwokedi emphasized that equal justice means equal access to basic eye care, education, employment, and social opportunities. She called on stakeholders to join forces to address these inequalities and promote a more just and equitable society for all Nigerians. The Women N Media group's call for collaboration to advance gender justice resonates with many Nigerians who are advocating for a more inclusive and equitable society. By working together, we can create a brighter future for women and vulnerable groups, where everyone has equal access to opportunities and can thrive.
