**Pace Set for a Smooth FCT Council Election: Wike Commends Voters**
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the recent FCT area councils' election. He commended the electorates for their calm and orderly behavior, which contributed to a hitch-free exercise.
Wike monitored the election in several polling units across the capital city, including Garki, Karu, Karshi, Kabusa, and Keti. He was pleased to note that the election was devoid of violence, ballot box snatching, or any other form of disruption. However, he expressed concern over the low voter turnout, particularly in the city centre, which has been a recurring issue in previous elections.
On the other hand, the turnout in satellite towns was impressive, with many residents turning out to exercise their franchise. Wike commended the security agencies for ensuring a smooth exercise, saying they had done a praiseworthy job in maintaining peace and order.
The Minister also commended the Independent Electoral Commission for a job well done, despite some challenges. He responded to criticisms from some quarters, including Senator Ireti Kingibe, who had condemned the restriction of movement from Friday evening to Saturday evening. Wike clarified that the restriction was with the approval of President Bola Tinubu, aimed at preventing any disruption to the election.
As the results of the election are being collated, Wike has urged residents to remain peaceful and avoid any actions that could compromise the integrity of the process. The Minister's comments have been seen as a positive development in the FCT, where the election was largely peaceful and successful.
The FCT area councils' election is a critical exercise in Nigeria's democratic process, and Wike's commendations have been seen as a boost to the nation's electoral system. The Minister's commitment to ensuring a peaceful and fair election has been praised by many, and his efforts are expected to contribute to a smooth transition of power in the FCT.
