Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has confirmed her meeting with President Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence on Monday, describing the engagement as a private discussion. During the meeting, she informed the president of her intention to contest the Ogun State governorship under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking at a media forum in Abeokuta on Saturday, organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Obasanjo said the conversation with Tinubu was respectful and intellectually engaging. She quoted herself saying, "We spoke—very sharp and articulate—and we had a very good discussion." Obasanjo dismissed claims that her political run is aimed at securing a deputy governorship or ministerial appointment. She stressed that she is fully committed to the governorship race and not seeking second-tier positions. The former senator and commissioner affirmed she still holds a teaching job, which she has maintained over the past three years through online platforms. On campaign funding, she admitted she does not have billions to spend but said public support is fueling her bid, with individuals donating time, T-shirts, caps and other materials.
