**Kano State Government Redeems Pledge to Families of Uromi Attack Victims**
In a move to fulfill its earlier promise, the Kano State Government has provided cash assistance and food items to the families of victims and survivors of the deadly attack in Uromi community of Edo State, which occurred one year ago. The attack resulted in the deaths of 16 hunters, with 13 others surviving the mob attack.
During a visit to Bunkure Local Government Area, where the victims' families were assembled, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, **Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya**, disclosed that the intervention was carried out following a directive by Governor **Abba Kabir Yusuf**. The governor had earlier directed the fulfillment of the promise made during a condolence visit, which had not been completed.
As part of the assistance, 16 families of those killed received **₦300,000** each, while survivors of the attack received **₦200,000** each, alongside two bags of rice per beneficiary. The commissioner recalled that Governor **Abba Kabir Yusuf** had visited the community alongside his Edo State counterpart to sympathise with the victims after the attack, which resulted in the deaths of 19 persons and left 13 others injured.
The commissioner also noted that an account has been opened for the families, and the Edo State Government is expected to release compensation funds for the victims at any moment. **Waiya** urged the families to remain patient, assuring them that both state governments were committed to ensuring justice and support for the victims. He described the incident as a "national calamity" and extended the government's condolences to the families of the victims.
A committee led by the deputy governor had earlier been set up by the Kano State Government to engage with authorities in Edo State and ensure proper handling of the situation. The commissioner reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting the victims and maintaining solidarity with their families in the aftermath of the tragedy.
