The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has taken a significant step towards advancing research and innovation in Nigeria with the establishment of a strategic partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
According to a statement by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, the partnership aims to set up a Centre of Excellence at UNILORIN, the first of its kind in West Africa. This centre will focus on practical engineering and technology-driven research, with the ultimate goal of developing industry-leading expertise.
The partnership was made possible through the joint efforts of UNILORIN Vice-Chancellor, Wahab Egbewole, and NNPCL Managing Director/CEO, Bayo Ojulari. The two leaders led their respective teams to discuss the terms of the partnership, which includes the establishment of an NNPC Professorial Chair at UNILORIN.
The Centre of Excellence is expected to be a game-changer in the Nigerian research landscape, driving innovation and collaboration between academia and industry. With the country's growing focus on energy and technology, this partnership is a significant step towards achieving the goals of the National Research and Development Framework.
The joint committee, led by UNILORIN's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Mukhtar Etudaiye, will refine the details of the partnership and submit a report within four weeks. This partnership is a testament to the University's commitment to research and innovation, and its willingness to collaborate with industry leaders to drive positive change in Nigeria.
For Nigerian students and researchers, this partnership opens up new opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and innovation. With the Centre of Excellence, UNILORIN is poised to become a hub for cutting-edge research and development in Nigeria, driving the country's growth and development in the years to come.
