The University of Calabar has announced Offiong Bassey Edet and Okpodighi Eno-obong as its best graduating students at the 38th Convocation Ceremony for 2026. A total of 10,820 students graduated, with 52 earning first-class honours, 2,390 securing second-class upper division, 5,819 in second-class lower division, 666 in third class, and 246 with pass degrees.
For Nigerian students, the recognition of top performers at UNICAL underscores the value of academic consistency in competitive disciplines like engineering and education. Achieving a CGPA above 4.7 in a Nigerian university system often shaped by infrastructural and administrative challenges demonstrates that high performance is still attainable with dedication.
This outcome resonates in a national context where JAMB and WAEC results increasingly influence university placement and graduate employability. As Nigerian institutions face growing pressure to produce globally competitive graduates, UNICAL's top students offer a benchmark for excellence, particularly in STEM and vocational education fields. Students aiming for distinction should prioritize structured study habits and engage with academic support systems early in their programmes.
