**Fire Outbreak at Ilorin Motor Park: Two Vehicles Destroyed, 36 Others Saved**
A devastating fire broke out at the Sawmill Garage motor park in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, in the early hours of Saturday. The inferno, which occurred in the Odo-Okun area, destroyed two vehicles, a Toyota Sienna and an 18-seater bus, but firefighters were quick to respond and prevent the fire from spreading to other vehicles.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle that caught fire was parked at the motor park after a long-distance journey the previous day. The driver had gone to sleep while waiting to convey passengers the following morning when he suddenly noticed that his bus was on fire. Despite efforts to move other vehicles away from the burning bus, a nearby Toyota Sienna also caught fire.
However, thanks to the swift intervention of the Kwara State Fire Service, the fire was brought under control, and 36 other vehicles were saved. The fire service spokesperson, Hakeem Adekunle, confirmed that the agency received the distress call at 2:48 a.m. and deployed personnel to the scene.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in public places, particularly in motor parks where vehicles are parked in close proximity to each other. It also highlights the bravery and quick response of the Kwara State Fire Service in preventing a major disaster from occurring.
For motorists in Kwara State, this incident is a wake-up call to be more vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent fire outbreaks. It is also a testament to the effectiveness of the state's fire service in responding to emergencies and saving lives.
