US President Donald Trump issued a warning on Wednesday that any country supplying military weapons to Iran would face immediate 50 per cent tariffs on all goods exported to the United States. The announcement was made on Trump's Truth Social platform, where he stated, "A Country supplying Military Weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed, on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions." The threat forms part of a broader pressure campaign targeting Iran's regional activities.
In a separate post, Trump revealed that his administration was engaged in discussions about tariff and sanctions relief with Iran. This came hours after he announced a temporary ceasefire with Tehran, during which Iran agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The strategic waterway, critical for global oil shipments, had been closed, raising tensions in international markets. The temporary de-escalation suggests a shift toward diplomatic engagement, even as economic threats are leveraged against third-party nations.
