**Troops Clamp Down on Gun Smuggling in Taraba**
In a significant operation, soldiers from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, under Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested a suspected gunrunner in Taraba State. The arrest was made in Ibi Local Government Area, following a stop-and-search operation based on intelligence reports.
The suspect, identified as Monday Reuben, a 48-year-old driver from Adamawa State, was intercepted in his Audi vehicle with Abuja plates. An investigation revealed that Reuben was transporting a large cache of arms and ammunition to unknown destinations.
Among the items recovered from Reuben's vehicle were two AK-47 rifles, hundreds of empty magazines, and an assortment of live ammunition. Additionally, the troops found N2.44 million in cash, mobile phones, and various personal items, including charms and identification cards.
The arrest and recovery of these arms and ammunition are significant in the fight against crime and insecurity in Taraba State. The operation highlights the military's commitment to tackling gun smuggling and other illicit activities in the region.
The commander of the operation, Brig.-Gen. Chukwuemeka Micheal Akaliro, has commended the troops for their efforts, urging them to sustain the momentum in their operations against criminal activities in the state. The suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody, awaiting further investigation by the appropriate authorities.
