The tragic loss of five family members in a single accident is a stark reminder of the dangers that exist on Nigeria's roads. Governor Mai Mala Buni's sympathies are welcome, but what is needed is concrete action to prevent such tragedies. The Damaturu–Maiduguri highway is notorious for accidents, and it is the responsibility of the Yobe State government to ensure that safety measures are in place to protect motorists. The governor's words of condolence are hollow without a plan to address the root causes of this tragedy. As Nigerians, we demand more from our leaders, especially in times of crisis.
