Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has asserted that there is only one Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The assertion was made in Abuja on Wednesday, during a press briefing after inspecting ongoing projects in the territory.
Wike acknowledged that it is common for individuals to feel dissatisfied in any political setting, but he emphasized that this does not translate to separate camps within the PDP. The Minister stated that discussions on reconciliation are ongoing, particularly ahead of the PDP National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30.
Wike clarified that the convention does not preclude reconciliation efforts, and that discussions can continue even after the convention. He expressed his lack of awareness about any separate camp within the party, reiterating that there is only one PDP.
The Minister also touched on the timeline for party primaries, which are set to commence from April 23 to May 13. According to Wike, this timeline leaves little room for delays.
💡 NaijaBuzz TakeNyesom Wike's insistence on the unity of the PDP is a welcome development, especially as the party prepares for its national convention. However, the Minister's lack of awareness about any separate camps within the party raises questions about the effectiveness of the reconciliation efforts. The PDP's ability to reconcile its warring factions will be crucial in determining its chances in the upcoming elections. With party primaries scheduled to commence soon, the PDP must get its act together to avoid further divisions.
