MC Oluomo's leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) is at the centre of a heated dispute. The union's secretariat in Abuja has reportedly been taken over by a rival faction led by Tajudeen Baruwa, citing court rulings in their favour. However, MC Oluomo remains defiant, insisting that he is still the union's president.
The NURTW leader has released a statement on his Instagram page, describing the takeover as a "forceful" move and maintaining that the matter is still before the courts. According to MC Oluomo, the referenced judgment does not directly involve him, and he has taken legal steps to challenge it. The judgment has been appealed, and a stay of execution has already been filed, meaning the situation is not yet settled.
MC Oluomo has also stated that he has not engaged with Baruwa or any other party involved in the dispute, as the case is still before the court. He has, however, noted that security agencies are monitoring the situation.
MC Oluomo's determination to hold onto his position has sparked a heated debate within the NURTW. The ongoing leadership crisis has echoes of the power struggles that often play out in Nollywood, where characters will stop at nothing to maintain their grip on power. As the legal battle continues, MC Oluomo's fate remains uncertain. One thing is clear, however: the NURTW's leadership crisis is far from over.
