According to Ndume, these groups often gather sensitive information from local informants, which they use to plan and execute attacks. He noted that many operations are carried out using "hit-and-run" strategies, allowing perpetrators to move quickly and avoid capture. "What they do is hit and run. They gather around, pass information among themselves, and most dangerously, they get information from some citizens too. They have informants within the society," Ndume explained. In a disturbing development, the senator disclosed that some recent attacks have involved unconventional methods, including the use of commercial tricycles, known as Keke Napep, to transport explosive devices to specific locations. "You can imagine, even the bomb that exploded, it was delivered by Keke Napep. They package it and give it to people in Keke Napep to deliver at specific spots," he said. Ndume attributed the worsening security situation to gaps in intelligence gathering, stressing the need for authorities to strengthen surveillance systems and information-sharing networks. He also expressed concern over the growing boldness of these groups, noting that some now record and share their activities on platforms like TikTok. "You can imagine bandits and terrorists in Nigeria having the audacity to record their atrocities on TikTok and send it out to people," Ndume said, highlighting the need for a more robust response to the evolving security threat.
