Suspected Terrorist Killed As Guards Brigade Troops Rescue 19 Kidnap Victims In FCT
**Troops Rescue 19 Kidnap Victims, Kill Terrorist in FCT Operation**
In a major operation, troops of the 7 Guards Battalion, under the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army, have rescued 19 kidnapped victims and neutralised a suspected terrorist in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. This significant breakthrough was achieved during a coordinated security operation in the Gidan Dogo area of Bwari, a suburb in the FCT.
According to Lieutenant Olawuyi Itunuoluwa, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters Guards Brigade, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the whereabouts of terrorists responsible for the recent abduction of residents in the Byazhin area of Bwari.
The troops, alongside operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, conducted the operation, which led to a fierce firefight with the kidnappers. Unfortunately, one of the terrorists was killed during the encounter, while others fled with suspected gunshot wounds. Security operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle and a locally fabricated firearm during the operation.
The good news, however, is that all 19 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and taken to safety. They are currently receiving medical attention, while the troops have returned to their Forward Operating Base in Bwari and are continuing patrols in the area to prevent further criminal activities.
The Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya, commended the troops and other security agencies for their bravery and professionalism. He reiterated the Brigade's commitment to protecting residents of the FCT and safeguarding Abuja as the nation's seat of power.
This operation is a testament to the Nigerian Army's determination to combat terrorism and kidnappings in the country. It also highlights the importance of collaboration between security agencies in tackling security challenges in Nigeria.
