Sugar Production: NSDC, BOI Launch N10bn Fund To Support Greenfield Project Devt
**Sugar Production: N10bn Fund Launched to Support Greenfield Projects in Nigeria**
The National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) and the Bank of Industry (BOI) have partnered to launch the Sugar Project Acceleration Fund (SPAF) worth N10 billion. This initiative aims to support the growth of greenfield sugar projects across Nigeria, providing financing and project development support to viable initiatives.
The fund is designed to accelerate the development of a sustainable and competitive sugar industry in Nigeria. To achieve this, the NSDC and BOI have embarked on an interactive session to educate greenfield promoters who can benefit from the fund. The event aimed to provide a platform for potential beneficiaries to learn about the requirements and opportunities available under the SPAF.
According to Mr. Kamar Bakrin, the Executive Secretary/CEO of NSDC, "capital availability is not the main constraint in sugar production. What investors seek are projects that are well-structured, documented, and de-risked to meet their financing standards." A bankable project, he emphasized, must have a credible feasibility study, a robust financial model, a clear land tenure framework, and a management team with a proven track record.
This collaboration between the NSDC and BOI is a significant step towards promoting the growth of Nigeria's sugar industry. With the country's growing demand for sugar, this initiative is expected to boost the sector's competitiveness and create job opportunities for Nigerians. The N10 billion fund will provide much-needed support to greenfield promoters who can develop sustainable and profitable sugar projects in Nigeria.
The success of the SPAF will depend on the availability of well-structured projects that meet the required standards. Greenfield promoters are therefore advised to take advantage of this opportunity and develop projects that are creditworthy, environmentally friendly, and socially responsible.
The launch of the SPAF is a testament to the government's commitment to promoting the growth of Nigeria's sugar industry. With the right support and funding, the sector is poised for growth and development, creating opportunities for investors, farmers, and Nigerians in general.
