**A Shift in Osun Politics: Six Reps Defect to Accord Party**
In a significant turn of events, six members of the House of Representatives from Osun State have formally joined the Accord Party, leaving behind their former platform, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The defection, which took place during a stakeholders' gathering in Osogbo on Monday, marks a major shift in the state's federal delegation.
The lawmakers, who represent different constituencies in the state, have pledged their loyalty to the Accord Party, with Clement Akanni, representing Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, speaking on behalf of the group. Akanni revealed that the lawmakers had collectively decided to leave the PDP with immediate effect.
With this development, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who had earlier defected to the Accord Party in December 2025, now has a stronger backing in the state. The governor, who was a stalwart of the PDP, cited internal challenges within the party as the reason for his defection.
As the August 15, 2026, governorship election draws near, the Accord Party is gearing up for a major showdown with other parties in the state. Akanni urged supporters to participate actively in the election, advising them to remain at polling units after casting their ballots to monitor the voting process.
The defection of the six lawmakers has left Senator Lere Oyewumi, representing Osun West Senatorial District, as the only federal lawmaker from the state elected on the PDP platform. Twenty-five members of the Osun State House of Assembly, who were elected under the PDP, have also announced their defection to the Accord Party.
As the political landscape of Osun State continues to evolve, one thing is clear: the Accord Party is positioning itself as a major player in the state's politics. With the governor and several lawmakers on its side, the party is likely to give other contenders a run for their money in the upcoming election.
