**Kwara Gov Seat: Six Aspirants Emerge as AbdulRazaq Rules Out Anointment**
In Kwara State, the stage is set for the 2027 governorship election, with six aspirants already showing interest in the top seat. The development has sparked heated debates, with many speculating that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq might be backing a particular candidate. But the governor has dismissed such claims, vowing to uphold the principles of internal democracy in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
At the recent state congress of the party, AbdulRazaq clarified that the APC would not engage in any form of anointment or zoning arrangement to determine the next governor. According to him, the party's focus is on selecting a candidate based on competence and the will of the people. "We are not here to build a dynasty," he emphasized. "We are here to build a legacy that will be sustained by our successor."
The governor highlighted the achievements of his administration in Kwara State over the past six years, citing significant progress in infrastructure, education, and healthcare. He expressed confidence that the APC's success story would serve as a benchmark for the next administration, urging all aspirants to build on the foundation laid.
As it stands, six governorship aspirants, including a member of the state House of Assembly, have already expressed interest in the top seat. AbdulRazaq described the situation as a healthy competition that will ultimately strengthen the party's internal democracy. "It will indeed be a tough contest, but I urge all aspirants to maintain unity before and after the primaries," he appealed.
The governor also praised party members for sustaining unity, citing the peaceful conduct of the congress as evidence of cohesion within the APC. He noted that the opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), have been decimated in the state, with many defecting to the APC.
AbdulRazaq credited President Bola Tinubu's leadership for growing national confidence in the APC, citing improvements in economic indicators. With the APC firmly in control, the stage is set for a fierce battle for the Kwara State governor's seat in 2027.
