Shi’ite group stages Pro-Palestinian campaign in Bauchi
**Bauchi Shi'ite Group Stages Pro-Palestinian Campaign**
Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as the Shi'ite group, recently embarked on a peaceful protest in Bauchi to show solidarity with the people of Palestine. This demonstration was part of global activities marking Quds Day, a significant event observed on the last Friday of every Ramadan.
According to Ahmed Yashi, a representative of the group, the protest aims to express support and sympathy for Palestinians who have been facing challenges for nearly eight decades. The Islamic Movement, loyal to Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, has consistently held peaceful protests on Quds Day, with past incidents of disorder usually caused by misunderstandings between the movement and authorities.
During the demonstration, the group also expressed support for Iran, stating that they stand with the country in its current crisis. They warned that any attempt to eliminate Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, would only worsen the situation. Yashi emphasized that Islam promotes peace but accused Western powers of fueling global conflicts.
This stance is not new to Nigerian politics, as we have seen our country's involvement in various international crises. However, the Shi'ite group's position highlights the need for African nations to take a united stance against global powers that often prioritize their interests over those of developing countries.
The group's message of solidarity with Iran and Palestine is resonating with many Nigerians, who are also calling for an end to foreign interference in our domestic affairs. As Yashi noted, "You are either with the righteous or with the oppressors." This message of unity and resistance is a powerful call to action for Nigerians, reminding us that our voices and actions can shape the future of our continent.
