“She Spoke Up For Me” — Jade Osiberu Credits Joke Silva For Helping Her Secure Funding For Isoken
**A Shoutout to Women Who Have Helped Nigerian Filmmaker Jade Osiberu Succeed**
Nigerian filmmaker Jade Osiberu has taken to social media to express her gratitude to the women who have supported her journey in the film industry. In an Instagram post, Osiberu shared her story of how veteran actress Joke Silva played a key role in securing funding for her first feature film, Isoken.
According to Osiberu, Silva was the only woman on the panel when she pitched for a loan from the Bank of Industry's NollyFund, a financing initiative created to support Nigerian filmmakers. During the pitch session, some panel members questioned Osiberu's vision, but Silva stood up for her and ensured she was shortlisted to receive the funding.
With the funding secured, Osiberu went on to become one of the few filmmakers who successfully repaid the loan. She also acknowledged the support of her mother, who used her house as collateral to secure the loan that made the film possible.
But Joke Silva's support was just the beginning. Osiberu also celebrated other women who have supported her career, including Lola Odedina, who helped her secure an opportunity to pitch the idea for Ndani TV to the Managing Director of GTBank. This was during Osiberu's early days in the industry, when she was still working in banking.
Osiberu also praised Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, who helped facilitate her major deal with Prime Video, which led to the release of her film Gangs of Lagos on the streaming platform. And she didn't forget to mention actress Lala Akindoju, who she described as a source of inspiration and encouragement.
Osiberu's story serves as a reminder of the importance of women supporting women in the industry. Her experiences show that with the right support and mentorship, female filmmakers in Nigeria can succeed and make a name for themselves in the competitive film industry.
